Dear Clients, Collectors and Friends,

Thank you very much for taking part in our auction last Friday.
With over 90% of the cameras and more than 70% of the photographs sold, we were able to celebrate a fantastic result.

What delighted us most was that this auction was not defined by six- or seven-figure records, but by the passion of true collectors. Also, the historical cameras of the 19th century inspired unexpectedly lively bidding and received great appreciation.

It is more remarkable that the auction was received so positively at a time when the international market for cameras and photography has clearly weakened, and when many recent auction catalogues have been far beyond the reach of 99% of collectors.

After the difficult experiences of last year – especially the dilemma with our former Chinese “partners” – there were moments when I seriously considered no longer holding auctions at all. This episode showed us very clearly how strongly parts of the market can be influenced by power games and financial interests.

And while elsewhere a camera was specially manufactured for charity and auctioned for many millions of euros – an impressive marketing gesture – we deliberately chose our own path: authenticity over staging, passion over record-hunting.
We have never had so many remote bidders from 28 countries, and the positive feedback on the catalogue and presentation meant a great deal to us.
