Dear friends of photography,

It gives me great pleasure to announce our next photo auction on 2 June 2023 at 5pm CEST at OstLicht, Gallery for Photography in Vienna.

The high-quality selection of more than 220 lots comprises the first part of the collection "In Our Time". Presented around 1990, this touring exhibition was the largest group exhibition of the legendary Magnum agency to date, with around 280 photographs, and brings together iconic works by the most important Magnum photographers such as HENRI CARTIER-BRESSON, BRUCE DAVIDSON, JOSEF KOUDELKA, ALEX WEBB, RENÉ BURRI, ROBERT CAPA, ELLIOTT ERWITT, SEBASTIAO SALGADO, INGE MORATH and many others. The large-format b/w baryta prints and dye-transfer colour prints are all signed or stamped.

In addition, rarities by ALFRED STIEGLITZ, FRANTISEK DRTIKOL, ANDRÉ KERTÉSZ, AUGUST SANDER, GUSTAVE LE GRAY, EDWARD S. CURTIS, ROBERT RAUSCHENBERG, ERNST HAAS, LISETTE MODEL, MARIO GIACOMELLI, EDWARD STEICHEN, ANTON GIULIO BRAGAGLIA will be auctioned.

Since 2009, I have been leading the WestLicht Photo Auction with my team, which has continued as the OstLicht Photo Auction since 2020.

I would like to thank our wonderful team with Marie Röbl, Francesca Catastini, Michael Kollmann, Taiyoung Ha, Anna Kasmader, Kaiyue Li, Janko Palkovitz, Christine Rumler, Denis Brodack and our auctioneer Niki Schauerhuber, who has proven himself for many years, very much for their joint work.

I am very pleased to announce that we have strengthened our team with the independent expert Simone Klein. Simone Klein has been a recognised international figure in photography for many years. She was Head of Photography at Kunsthaus Lempertz for 9 years, from 2007 to 2015 she was Director of the Photography Department at Sotheby's Europe and led auctions in Paris, London and New York. From 2015, she was the sales director of Magnum Photo. Since 2018, she has been an independent photography appraiser.
