Elliott Erwitt's iconic photograph shows a couple kissing in the rear-view mirror of a car parked facing the sea. He captured a moment of tender love combined with the sunset in the background, thus creating an idealised composition that could hardly have been planned. Over the course of his career, Erwitt succeeded in taking an extraordinary number of such poignant snapshots, some of which he forgot about after they were taken. In this case, he rediscovered it 25 years later when looking through old negative contact strips.

Elliott Erwitts ikonische Fotografie zeigt ein sich küssendes Paar im Rückspiegel eines Autos, das zum Meer hin geparkt ist. Er fing einen Moment zärtlicher Liebe ein, der sich mit dem Sonnenuntergang im Hintergrund zu einer idealtypischen Komposition verband, die kaum planbar wäre. Erwitt sind im Laufe seiner Karriere außergewöhnlich viele solcher pointierten Schnappschüsse geglückt, und manche dieser Bilder vergaß er nach der Aufnahme wieder. In diesem Fall entdeckte er es 25 Jahre später bei der Durchsicht von alten Negativ-Kontaktstreifen wieder.
