In 1936 Alexander Rodchenko took this photograph of Malioutina (or Malyutina) in Moscow. The portrait, anticipating his later style with clear contrasts and "milder" tilted perspectives, was taken during a period when Rodchenko and his wife Varvara Stepanova were working closely with state publishers such as IZOGIZ, designing monumental albums such as "Cinema in the USSR" (1936) and "The Red Army" (1938).

Deutsch:

PROVENIENZ Serge Plantureux, Paris.
