Rare vintage gelatin silver print on single-weight, glossy paper, in very good condition. "Camera Press" agency stamp, Arabic "I.P.P. Global Press Release Distribution Agency" agency stamp and English typographic caption clip with the photographer's credit on the reverse.

Ernest Cole documented South African shebeens, published in his seminal book "House of Bondage". These illegal taverns served as social sanctuaries for Black communities to gather, drink, and escape the heavily regimented, oppressive atmosphere of apartheid.
