Ulrich Mack became known for his photo essays and portraits for the magazines ‘Quick’, ‘stern’ and the legendary youth magazine ‘twen’. Since the 1960s, he has also worked intensively on the subjects of still life and landscape in colour. His cycle ‘Stille - Weite - Ferne - Nähe’, which is divided into four chapters and is formally and aesthetically mature, shows the grace and elegance of things in the object detail as well as in the interplay with the surrounding nature. This image is part of the fourth chapter and paraphrases a motif from Renger-Patzsch's photo book ‘Die Welt ist schön’ (1928), which is considered one of the most famous photo books of the Weimar Republic and an iconic example of New Objectivity photography.
