Vintage silver print on single-weight glossy paper 25.3 x 20.6 cm, in good condition. "Joint Army Navy Task Force One Photo" credit, "Pictorial Press Ltd." agency copyright label and hectographic text, two archive stamps with handwritten entries "Atomic Bomb", cropping marks, and several numerical annotations on the reverse.

"Helen of Bikini in Action - The Baker Day explosion of the fifth atomic bomb at Bikini, July 24, 1946, as recorded by an automatically operated camera on a nearby island. Characteristic atomic cloud forms, altered by steam from sub-surface detonations." (caption text on the reverse). The bomb was named 'Helen of Bikini' by soldiers involved in the test. After the detonation, a cauliflower-shaped blast formed, which still characterises the collective memory today. The 'cauliflower' consisted largely of material from the bottom of the lagoon, where the explosion left a crater 610 metres wide and 9 metres deep.

Agenturetikette und hektografischer Text, zwei Archivstempel mit handschriftlichen Einträgen "Atomic Bomb", Ausschnittmarkierungen und verschiedene numerische Vermerke.

"Helen of Bikini in Aktion – Die Baker-Day-Explosion der fünften Atombombe am Bikini-Atoll am 24. Juli 1946, aufgenommen von einer automatisch betriebenen Kamera auf einer nahe gelegenen Insel. Charakteristische Atombombenwolke, verändert durch Dampf aus unterirdischen Detonationen." (Bildunterschrift der Agentur auf der Rückseite). Die Bombe wurde von am Test beteiligten Soldaten "Helen of Bikini" benannt. Nach der Detonation bildete sich jener blumenkohlförmige Ausstoß, der bis heute das kollektive Erinnerungsbild prägt. Der "Blumenkohl" bestand zum größten Teil aus Material vom Boden der Lagune, wo die Explosion einen 610 Meter breiten und 9 Meter tiefen Krater hinterließ.
