English:

Vintage silver print on single-weight glossy paper, in very good condition. Photographer's name stamp in blue ink and "Rapho" agency stamp in red ink, several handwritten numbers, cropping marks and annotated "Lyon L'entrée du théâtre Mourgnet" in pencil on the reverse.

"Guignol" is the central hero of French puppet theatre and his name is also used to describe the venues, similar to the Kasper(le) theatre in Germany. The character was created at the beginning of the 19th century by the unemployed labourer Laurent Mourguet in Lyon and is said to bear his own facial features.

Vintage-Silbergelatineabzug auf dünnem, glänzendem Papier, in sehr gutem Zustand. Rückseitig Fotografen-Namensstempel mit blauer Tinte und "Rapho" Agenturstempel mit roter Tinte, handschriftliche Nummerierungen, Ausschnittmarkierungen und Vermerk "Lyon L'entrée du théâtre Mourgnet" mit Bleistift.

"Guignol" ist der zentrale Held des französischen Puppentheaters und sein Name wird auch als Bezeichnung der Spielstätten verwendet, in etwa dem Kasper(le)-Theater im deutschen Raum entsprechend. Die Figur wurde am Beginn des 19. Jahrhunderts vom Arbeitslosen Laurent Mourguet in Lyon geschaffen und soll dessen Gesichtszüge tragen.
