The Catalan photojournalist is best known for his photographs during the Spanish Civil War, where he supported the Republicans with his Leica; he sent these pictures to France in 1939, and it was only after Franco's death in 1975 that they were rediscovered as central documents of Spanish history. Because of his direct, spare visual language, he was called the "Spanish Robert Capa". One picture within our Lot shows Communist popular militia behind a barricade of cobblestones in the Plaza del Peso de la Paja in Barcelona in May; the agency's caption names it as one of the first authentic pictures of the fighting. The second picture shows three militia women from Tardienta, province of Huesca in Aragon in October, another image from the same series is hold at the Fundación Pablo Iglesias.

Der katalanische Fotojournalist wurde vor allem für seine Aufnahmen im Spanischen Bürgerkrieg bekannt, wo er mit seiner Leica aufseiten der Republikaner stand; 1939 schickte er diese Bilder nach Frankreich, erst nach dem Tod Francos 1975 wurden sie als zentrale Dokumente spanischer Geschichte wiederentdeckt. Aufgrund seiner direkten, nüchternen Bildsprache nannte man ihn den "spanischen Robert Capa". Eine Aufnahme unseres Lots zeigt kommunistische Volksmiliz hinter einer Barrikade aus Pflastersteinen an der Plaza del Peso de la Paja in Barcelona im Mai, der Agenturtext bezeichnet es als eines der ersten authentischen Bilder von den Kämpfen. Das zweite Bild zeigt drei Milizionärinnen aus Tardienta, Provinz Huesca in Aragonien im Oktober.
