Vintage silver print on single-weight glossy Agfa-Brovira paper 24.1 x 18.1 cm, in very good condition. Photographer's credit stamp with address in Bad Reichenhall and "Luis Trenker" stamp with address in Bolzano, as well as archive stamp "Bildgruppe / Negativ-Nr." with handwritten entry "109" in ink.
Ernst Baumann was first hired as a still photographer by Luis Trenker in 1932, who also recommended him working with a Rolleiflex camera. The shot was taken during the filming of "The Mountain Calls". The movie is dedicated to the dramatic events surrounding the first ascent of the Matterhorn; Trenker plays the Italian climber Carrell in the leading role, who conquers the mountain alone and at night after failing to make the first ascent.

Rückseitig Fotografenstempel mit Adresse in Bad Reichenhall und "Luis Trenker"-Stempel mit Adresse in Bozen, sowie Archivstempel "Bildgruppe / Negativ-Nr." mit handschriftlichem Eintrag "109" mit Tinte.
Ernst Baumann wurde erstmals 1932 von Luis Trenker als Standfotograf engagiert, der ihm auch empfahl, mit einer Rolleiflex-Kamera zu arbeiten. Die Aufnahme entstand während der Dreharbeiten zu "Der Berg ruft". Der Film widmet sich den dramatischen Ereignissen um die Erstbesteigung des Matterhorns; Trenker in der Hauptrolle spielt den italienischen Alpinisten Carrell, der den Berg allein und bei Nacht bezwingt, nachdem ihm die Erstbesteigung nicht gelungen war.
