When a photograph by David Douglas Duncan first appeared on the cover of LIFE on November 4, 1946, it was a photograph taken in Palestine. The print of offer was part of this assignment for the legendary magazine, which was followed by many more. When Edward Steichen selected around 500 images from over two million submissions for the exhibition "The Family of Man," this photograph by Duncan was among them. The print served as a press print for the highly influential exhibition, which toured worldwide.

Als am 4. November 1946 erstmals eine Fotografie von David Douglas Duncan am Cover von LIFE erschien, handelte es sich um eine Aufnahme aus Palästina. Der vorliegende Abzug entstand im Rahmen dieses Auftrags für die legendäre Zeitschrift, dem viele weitere folgen sollten. Als Edward Steichen für die Ausstellung "The Family of Man" rund 500 Bilder aus über zwei Millionen Einreichungen auswählte, war auch diese Aufnahme Duncans darunter. Der Abzug diente als Presseprint für die einflussreiche, weltweit tourende Ausstellung.
