Vintage silver print on double-weight semi-matte paper 61.5 x 50.5 cm, in very good condition. Signed, titled, dated and edition numbered "4/5" in pencil by the photographer, also her copyright stamp on the reverse. The portrait was taken for a photo book, which published Kruse's portraits along with quotes of the sitters. Willy Brand, Social Democratic politician and Chancellor of Germany 1969–1974, provided the following text to his portrait: "Europe taken at its word? Perhaps it is more the case that we should take this Europe at its word (and hold it to account). It is by no means certain that the opportunity we were given in the early 1990s will repeat itself at will. So now it is important to anchor the community not only in the mountains of bureaucratic paperwork, but also in the everyday reality of citizens' lives – without levelling out our valuable national heritage. This is also the decade in which the European Community's expansion into Central and Eastern Europe must be shaped."

Dieses Porträt nahm Kruse für einen Bildband auf, in dem es zusammen mit einem Zitat des Porträtierten veröffentlicht wurde. Willy Brandt, sozialdemokratischer Politiker und Bundeskanzler von 1969 bis 1974, verfasste folgenden Text zu seinem Porträt: "Europa beim Wort genommen? Vielleicht ist es doch eher so: dass wir uns als Europäer beim Wort (und in die Pflicht) genommen fühlen sollten. So sicher ist es ja nicht, dass sich die uns Anfang der neunziger Jahre gegebene Chance beliebig widerholt. Also kommt es jetzt darauf an, die Gemeinschaft nicht nur in den Aktenbergen der Bürokratien, sondern in der Lebenswirklichkeit der Bürger zu verankern - ohne gutes nationales Erbe einzuebnen. Dies ist auch das Jahrzehnt, in dem es eine mittel- und osteuropäische Erweiterung der Europäischen Gemeinschaft zu gestalten gilt".
