The German physician Heinrich Kuehn moved to the Austrian alps for health reasons. As a photographer, he became one the most important representative of Pictorialism there. His children, as well as Mary Warner, the nanny, were favourite models for his staged photographs. This photogravure was created for his American friend Alfred Stieglitz, the influential photographer, gallery owner and publisher of the legendary photo magazine "Camera Work".
