Gelatin silver print, printed in 1989 on double-weight semi-matte paper 50.6 x 60.5 cm, in very good condition. Magnum's "In our Time" exhibition blindstamp and signed by the photographer in ink in the lower margin, negative number "212/2" in pencil on the reverse. LITERATURE William Manchester (ed.), In our Time. The world as seen by Magnum photographers, London 1989, p. 229; Elliott Erwitt, Photographs and Anti-Photographs. Introduction by John Szarkowski, London 1972, p. 78.

In 1953, Elliott Erwitt was starting a family in his home of New York City. His candid snapshot of his first wife Lucienne, their baby and a cat, has since become recognized as a classic example of photography in the humanist tradition.
