Andre de Dienes had already established himself as a fashion photographer when in 1943 he met the then 19-year-old Norma Jeane Dougherty, later to become Marilyn Monroe, and was immediately fascinated by her youthful freshness and photogenic sex appeal. He was the first to hire her for a modelling job.
