Magnum's exhibition blindstamp in the margin at lower right, signed and annotated in pencil on the reverse. LITERATURE William Manchester (ed.), In our Time. The world as seen by Magnum photographers, London 1989, p. 36. Barbey tirelessly documented the student protests and also devoted much time to Jean-Paul Sartre as a figure in world affairs. In 2001, Jean-Luc Moreau published this photograph in his book "Simone de Beauvoir and Jean-Paul Sartre in Paris" and writes: "Sartre stands on an old oil drum in front of the factory gates of Renault-Billancourt, criticises the state justice system and campaigns for an alliance of intellectuals and proletarians. Only journalists were direct witnesses to this action, but the photo went around the world".

Bruno Barbey dokumentierte unermüdlich die Studentenproteste und beschäftigte sich auch intensiv mit Jean-Paul Sartre als Figur im Weltgeschehen. 2001 publizierte Jean-Luc Moreau diese Aufnahme in seinem Buch "Simone de Beauvoir und Jean-Paul Sartre in Paris" und schreibt dazu: "Sartre stellt sich vor den Fabriktoren von Renault-Billancourt auf ein altes Ölfass, kritisiert die staatliche Justiz und wirbt für ein Bündnis von Intellektuellen und Proletariern. Unmittelbare Zeugen dieser Aktion sind zwar nur Journalisten, doch das Foto geht um die ganze Welt".
