Die in Los Angeles China-Town aufgewachsene Anna May-Wong (1905–1961) brachte sich die Schauspielerei autodidaktisch bei und bekam bereits mit 17 Jahren eine Hauptrolle in einem Stummfilm. Mit ihrer asiatischen Abstammung war sie eine große Ausnahme im damaligen US-Filmbusiness und auf die Figur einer „China Doll“ beschränkt. Um ihr Rollen-Repertoire zu erweitern, drehte sie 1928 bis 1930 in Europa und besuchte auch Wien. Hier wurde sie in verschiedenen Settings und Kostümen im Studio Manassé porträtiert. Anna May-Wong (1905-1961), who grew up in Los Angeles’ China Town, taught herself acting and got a leading role in a silent film at the age of 17. With her Asian ancestry, she was a major exception in the US film business at the time and was limited to the role of a “China Doll”. To expand her repertoire of roles, she filmed in Europe from 1928 to 1930 and during this time also visited Vienna. Here she was portrayed in various settings and costumes at Studio Manassé.
