Lot details

Start price: € 3,000

Estimate: € 5,000–6,000

English:

Vintage gelatin silver print on glossy single-weight paper, in good condition. "Bragaglia Fotografia" stamp, handwritten name of the sitter and illegible address, ending "Roma", in brown ink on the reverse. LITERATURE Omaggio a Carlo Ludovico Bragaglia, cat. Palazzo Braschi, Ed. Joyce & Co., Rome 1994, p. 59.

This portrait depicts Arturo Bragaglia, the founder of the Futurist movement "Fotodynamismo," who frequently employed distortions to capture the vital energy of his subjects, as seen in his "polyphysiognomic portraits." Carlo himself turned his attention primarily to film starting in the 1930s, though he continued to take photographs as well. This portrait of his elder brother was exhibited in a retrospective in the 1990s and is extremely rare.

Deutsch:

LITERATUR Omaggio a Carlo Ludovico Bragaglia, Kat. Palazzo Braschi, Ed. Joyce & Co., Rom 1994, S. 59.
