Signed and dated by the artist in ink in the lower margin, titled, annotated "6 of 6 variations" and "Tokyo, Japan, 1983 SLF #774" in ink on the reverse. For her tattoo series, New Yorker Sandi Fellman travelled to Tokyo several times starting in 1982 to photograph the full-body tattooed members of the Yakuza. Often referred to as the "Japanese mafia", the organisation invokes a tradition that goes back a long way and follows strict rules of virtue.
