Photographer's handwritten signature "Bragaglia ROMA" in black ink in the image at lower left, his pictorial name stamp in blue ink on the reverse of the print, his label "Servizio Fotografico del teatro degli indipendenti, Via Avignonesi N. 8, Roma 104" on the reverse of the mount. PROVENANCE Estate of Luigi Freddi (1895–1977), founder of the "Centro Sperimentale di cinematografia" and "Cinecittà" in Rome, where Bragaglia worked. In 1910, Anton Giulio and Arturo Bragaglia began to develop the Futurist movement known as "Fotodinamismo" in order to capture sequences of movement using long exposures. The aim was to depict the vibrations of the "élan vital" as a dynamic flow, as it remains hidden from perception. In "The Slap", this applies both to the gesture of the person striking the blow and to the fall of the person being slapped. In the founding manifesto of Futurism in 1909, Marinetti had praised the slap – as a polemical and provocative attack on the "thought-laden immobility of traditional art". Bragaglia's original print is a rare, museum-quality collector's item from a private Italian collection.

1910 begannen Anton Giulio und Arturo Bragaglia den futuristischen "Fotodinamismo" zu entwickeln, um Bewegungsabläufe in Langzeitbelichtungen festzuhalten. Ziel war die Darstellung der Schwingungen des "élan vital" als einen dynamischen Fluss, wie er der Wahrnehmung verborgen bleibt. In "Die Ohrfeige" betrifft dies sowohl die Geste des Ausholenden als auch den Fall des Geohrfeigten. Im Gründungsmanifest des Futurismus hatte Marinetti 1909 die Ohrfeige gepriesen – als polemisch-provokativen Angriff auf die "gedankenschwere Unbeweglichkeit der traditionellen Kunst". Bragaglias Originalabzug ist ein seltenes, museales Sammlerstück aus einer italienischen Privatsammlung.
