Der japanische Magnum Fotograf bekam ab den späten 1970er Jahren als einer von wenigen Fotojournalisten die Möglichkeit, oftmals in Nord-Korea zu arbeiten, als die Nation unter der Herrschaft von Kim Il-Sung stand. Die Aufnahme zeigt Feierlichkeiten zu dessen Geburtstag in dem nach ihm benannten Stadium mit zehntausenden Akteuren und mehr als hundertausend Besuchern.

The Japanese Magnum member was one of a few photojournalists to be given the opportunity to work repeatedly in North Korea from the late 1970s onwards, when the nation was still under the rule of Kim Il-Sung. The photograph shows celebrations for Kim Il-Sung’s birthday at the stadium named after him, with more than hundred thousand visitors and actors.
