Since the early 1990s, acclaimed Hartford-based artist Ellen Carey has created experimental and abstract works that defy photographic conventions. The face in red and green in front of a blue background is part of her series of self-portraits, she created with the Polaroid 20x24 inch camera constructed by Edwin Land and presented in 1979 for the first time. By using an image transfer film, this wooden gadget – with 1.50 meters in height and a weight of 106 kilos – delivered giant instant prints of impressive quality.
