The view of a boat at sunset is from the renowned photographer's early work in Hungary, before he moved to Paris. During his military service in the First World War and in the years following, Kertész devoted himself to the meagre everyday life in his homeland, modest pleasures and atmospheric landscapes. He captured moments of poetic power and demonstrated his talent for harmonious composition early on.
