Gelatin silver print, printed in the 1970s on double-weight semi-matte paper 39 x 48.7 cm, in very good condition. Signed and dedicated to "P. Patrick, le Roi des toujours, et surtout un ami" by the photographer in black ink on the lower margin.

"This scene has been photographed in old Peking through the window of a shop in Liu Li Chang, the street long famous for its art and antique shops. The gold-lettered name of this shop means 'prosperity'. Private citizens come here to sell family jewels or other objects. The government fixes the prices. It is early summer and people live in the streets at this time. That's why you see women and old men and playing children, and in the crowded streets it is very difficult to take pictures without everybody looking at you." (Marc Riboud)
